Understanding Seasonal Change In HVAC

As we transition into warmer weather with the shift in season, homeowners should know how to be ready. HVAC units are utilized entirely differently, providing cooling instead of heating for households. This sometimes comes from entirely different units, or in some cases the same unit utilizing different components. There are measures that homeowners should be privy to during this transition, ranging from filters to ductwork and more. Tune ups are very important to assess the system health and what needs to be worked on at this time. Below is a checklist of things to look out for during this transition:

  • Checking and replacing air filters – through the season air filters see a lot of usage, and can become very dirty. Typically every season a filter will need to be replaced.
  • Ductwork Inspection – Harsh winter weather can certainly make already present leaks and damage in ductwork worse. It’s important to take a look at these as you head into the Spring to mitigate any wear and tear.
  • Checking coolant – The cooling season will be demanding of the coolant within your HVAC unit. Making sure you have adequate levels of coolant will keep the efficiency of your system running smoothly.
  • Humidity control – The weather change in spring brings increased humidity levels, directly impacting indoor air quality. Visiting your HVAC unit’s humidity control settings and prepping them for what’s ahead we strongly recommend.

Spring Is The Perfect Time For A Tune-Up

Although cooling needs go up during spring, we can all agree that it is not as intensive as summer. This is the main reason we suggest an inspection or tune up during the season. Winter and summer traditionally are the most intensive seasons on HVAC units. Tune-ups are an inexpensive solution to understand requirements for the coming summer months. For their minimal cost, they provide a lot of insight into your HVAC unit’s overall health, we highly recommend it.

Do You Really Need A Pro?

Every situation is different, and every homeowner’s knowledge is different. Having a professional look at your unit can often find things that the untrained eye can’t see. Can you get away with not having one look over it? Maybe for a season or two, but unnoticed errors over long the long term can lead to many problems. A preventative maintenance plan will have you covered regardless of the shift in weather. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
